Harter House Quality Meats-Quality, Service and Value

Jerry and Barbara Bettlach, set the mark for what would become a family of supermarkets upholding high standards and a family tradition of quality, service and value.

Harter House has always been about family.

Even before Harter House Butcher Shop in 1973, the Bettlach family had been perfecting meat cutting techniques and family recipes in St. Louis, Missouri since the late 1800′s.

In 1973, Jerry and Barbara opened their Harter House Meat Market. Since then the business has expanded to 6 locations and business is booming.

Farmers Market of the Ozarks: “The Place to Shop” for locally grown and made products

Description
Across the Ozarks are a substantial and growing number of farmers markets, however current markets only serve a fraction of the Ozarks region of consumers. Consumers in this area are demanding fresh, locally grown produce and are seeking out options to purchase specialty crops. We propose to: 1.) Develop the Farmers Market of the Ozarks on the south side of Springfield, Mo., that will be housed in a year-round pavilion by 2012 that will be open to vendors from 150 miles from the market location, 2.) Organize producer education seminars, 3.) Inform consumers about the nutritional benefits of the region’s specialty crops, 4.) Create a strategic marketing campaign, “The Place to Shop.”

Our end objective is to improve the financial success of farmers across the Ozarks, through a large, well-structured city market in Springfield, Mo., in turn creating increased sales of the crops producers grow. Secondly, this market will focus on increasing the consumption of fruits and vegetables in the region, therefore resulting in a healthier population. This will be achieved through tactical consumer educational marketing for adults and children through marketing materials, online media promotion, nutritional value of crops, cooking demonstrations and organic school gardens.

The market will devote training to increase the production of its growers to provide an increasing amount of produce vended and will work with producers on salesmanship, extending the growing season and farm visits with vendors. In addition vendors will be encouraged to be trained on “Good Agricultural Practices” and “Good Handling Practices.” The market will work with Missouri State University Fruit Experiment Station, Missouri Organic Association, Missouri Farmers Market Association, Missouri Vegetable Growers Association and the University of Missouri Extension to develop efficient educational seminars for regional vendors of the market and extend invites to other area markets.

Below is a picture of the proposed expansion at the new location at Hwy 60 & Republic Rd.

Food choices that taste great, control weight, & promote health!
For the last ten years, Michael Brown has owned and operated four businesses dedicated
to finding solutions to the American health crisis. This crisis threatens businesses that
struggle to compete in global markets. This crisis threatens governments that struggle to
finance the 66 million baby boomers who will qualify for Medicare over the next 20 years.
Furthermore, this crisis has a personal cost as millions struggle with high cost health
insurance and epidemic levels of chronic diseases, many of which are preventable with
changes in diet, exercise, and stress. Considering chronic diseases account for upwards of
75% of health care costs, success in this area promises substantial benefits. Our goal is to
succeed with preventive health care and substantially reduce the need for conventional
health care for the most devastating and expensive forms of chronic disease.
Specifically, these businesses researched, developed, and sold  products and services to
control weight and improve health. Our mission is to develop great tasting food choices
along with services that control weight and lower risk for heart disease, stroke, cancer,
diabetes, and arthritis. These chronic diseases account for 7 out of 10 preventable deaths
in the United States. These chronic diseases often require multiple drugs, extended hospital
stays, and chronic pain and suffering. Mounting medical research indicates that people who
control their weight are significantly less likely to require acute intervention in a hospital
setting, offering additional savings in health care costs.

Controlling weight and improving health also offers a way to boost productivity. A healthy
employee who has controlled weight is a more productive employee. Fewer sick days are
but a fraction of the benefits. Controlling weight and promoting health builds a body that is
active and energized, a mind that thinks clearly with less stress, and a spirit that thrives.
Boosted productivity has the added advantage of helping offset the costs of preventive
care.

Our food choices also taste great, making weight control and wellness to be a pleasurable
and preferred experience. Our services combine education, skills development, and stress
management so that the employee becomes the expert on weight control and wellness.
They become a walking, talking, thriving testament to the benefits of health. Contrast this
approach with an employee offered 15 minute appointments with a doctor whose only real
option is to prescribe drugs. And, these drugs do not address the burden that excess
weight inflicts on your heart, vascular system, immune system, and joints. Finally, 15 minute
appointments offer insufficient time to educate and support the patient even if the doctor
desires to do so.

Sincerely,
Michael Brown
