About Atlas
Atlas Security Service, Inc. has been providing “Peace of Mind” for Southwest Missouri since 1962. Started by Marvin Britton as a security patrol service, Atlas Patrol Company soon entered the electronic security business and became Atlas Security Service, Inc. With this change, Atlas opened its own 24 hour monitoring station in Springfield and offered a full range of alarm services. In the early 1970’s, Atlas sought and received Underwriter’s Laboratories (*UL) listing for its central monitoring station. This listing allowed Atlas to offer certified burglar alarm systems, fire alarm systems, and 24 hour monitoring that met industry standards and insurance requirements. Jewelry stores, financial institutions and other businesses were now able to have a local security company that provided them with security that met their specific needs.
In the mid 1970’s Atlas Security entered the digital age with the development of one of the first alarm control panels that communicated over an analog (regular) phone line. Prior to this, alarm monitoring required expensive dedicated phone circuits. This development resulted in the formation of a new company, Digital Monitoring Products (DMP), which began as a research and development branch of Atlas and was located here in Springfield. Under the initial leadership of Marvin Britton and now current owner, Rick Britton, DMP has grown into a leading manufacturer of quality, innovative security product solutions for the security alarm industry.
In 1992, Marvin Britton’s son-in-law, Jim Wade, who had been managing Atlas Security for several years, purchased Atlas. He continues to serve today as Owner and President of Atlas. Atlas moved into their new offices on Republic Road in 2006 and opened a new state-of-the-art monitoring center. As technology has advanced, Atlas has been on the forefront of change, providing the very best in electronic security systems, including burglary, fire, video and access control systems.
Atlas Security Service, Inc. is proud of its history and its ability to serve the community. Our goal today is the same as it was almost 50 years ago; to provide Springfield, the Ozarks and the surrounding region with the best alarm security services.
*UL listing of an alarm company is recognized in the alarm security industry as a standard of quality that not many companies obtain.
